A question all Christians have at some point asked is, “How can Jesus be both Father and Son? JFS taught, and I want to preserve it here, as my old file system isn’t working FOR me any more:
Jesus as Father and Son

Jesus Christ is called the Father.
The term “Father” as applied to Deity occurs in sacred writ with plainly different meanings.
Jesus Christ is the Father of heaven and earth.
Jesus Christ is the Father of those who abide in His gospel.
Jesus Christ is the Father by divine investiture of authority.

The lesson uses quotes from a doctrinal exposition 30 June 1916 titled “The Father and the Son.” This declaration affirmed the unity between God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and clarified the distinct roles of each in the plan of salvation. It also explained the ways in which the term Father is applied in the scriptures to both our Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ.

Wild adventure with God

I know a person who embarked on a wild adventure with God. He used to go around the country speaking about it and trying to convince others. He advocated going to a quiet spot somewhere out in nature where you could pray vocally to God, and to see if you could pray for half hour every day. I remember wondering how he could justify leaving his wife and ten children home in the mornings while he went off to pray, but oh well, I tried it too. Three things happened. Yes….

  • I definitely did develop a personal relationship with my Savior.
  • I felt dumb when a neighbor happened to see me kneeling beside my favorite tree along the road where I walked.
  • My family started to complain about breakfast not being ready on time because I would be gone when they got out of bed.
  • I started looking at others who probably weren’t praying like I was, and suppose I did place myself up on a pedestal. I felt like I was the one having the personal relationship, and since no one else was, yes, I was special.

I tried it some time later at night after everyone was in bed. I would go into the office, sit on the recliner, and pray until I was able to connect to the one thing that was not amis. I was trying to prove the scripture which said if you prayed not amis your prayer would be answered. To me that meant what was in accordance with God’s will, or one with God. I found that it was possible to do with effort, but after awhile I got lazy. Actually I think what happened was I learned that along with relationship came greater trials, and somewhere along the line the house burned down, and I lost my cozy chair in the office. But I had planted it there for another purpose, one which God did not sanction, and that’s another story.

Although that happened fifteen years ago, I can still remember some of those prayers, and some of the wonderful things that happened as a result, and also some of the not so wonderful things that happened. So, I would highly recommend to anyone that wants to know of the reality of God to try it for a couple of weeks or a month and see for yourself. Trust me when I say it will be a wild adventure.

I think in a sense this is what Dena is going through now. She and I seem to be on a similar journey, with me about 10 years (older) ahead?. We both have eight children, our birthdays are a day apart, our dad’s birthdays are near the same day. Our journeys are different, because we are on different paths, but similar in that we are on journeys of discovery, where we want to learn for ourselves the basic concepts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Years later I read an article criticizing this gentleman that taught me how to gain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. here. I am sorry that some left the mainstream of the church because of it. Since that time I have learned there is more safety in the mainstream than there is when you are perched up on the highest limb, and that it’s ok to flow with the mainstream. God wants to hear from us morning and night in prayer. He likes us to say the blessing on the food before we eat, and he likes us to open and close each meeting with prayer, just a short, simple, direct prayer. He wants us to stay in tune with His Holy Spirit all the time so that we can capture the moments that count. His spirit is here to guide us constantly, and as long as we’re not trying to live our life from both ends at the same time, there will be no conflict. What I mean is that you can’t be planning to kill someone while you’re dealing in drugs, or planning an affair while you are holding a family together, and on the other side wonder why God isn’t answering your prayers. Although God will meet you at the depths of your despair if you reach for Him, and He will guide you out of any hole if you exercise your faith in Him, it is not easy. God loves everyone no matter who we are or what we’ve done, and anyone can believe. But there are conditions that are attached to having the Holy Ghost as a constant companion.

To quote a friend, “I’ve done the best I know how to do, to relay, in mere limited words, what it is that I”ve come to believe. It’s a journey, over much time, with many experiencees, and really, what I’d love to do, is not to convince you of what *I* believe, but to inspire you to launch into a deep and wild adventure with God, of your own.”

My fear is that I won’t be understood, so if there are any who might be reading this who think I don’t know God or think that I believe in the wrong Jesus, as I know some think, here are some links:  link  link  link  link

The blogosphere is an interesting place to dwell. You can find as many different ideas and ideologies as sands by the sea. If anyone out there on the sea shore happens across my little hill, I would be interested in knowing about your wild adventure with God.

The proud wish God would agree with them. They aren’t interested in changing their opinions to agree with God’s.

I’m examining the difference between Obama’s government and the kind of government we have in the church.  We both subscribe to a leader, Obama on the one hand, the Prophet on the other.   What is the real difference?   Obama spends our money freely, and taxes more if needed.  The church spends its money too – on temples, churches, schools, humanitarian aid.  Where does the church get its money?  Voluntary donations.  Is there any pressure to donate?  We have basically entered into a covenant where all that we have belongs to the church:  our talents, our time, our property, for the benefit of helping our fellow man.  Obama wants us to do the same thing, give all we have to help those who don’t have as much.

We have two very distinct systems of government here, you could call each one a socialist system, but there is one huge difference.  Christ could come to earth and assume His rightful place as King of Kings, Lord of Lords, which would place Him in a world government leadership position.  We would hand him back the keys to the kingdom and He would rule and reign.  Period.   Anyone willing to subscribe to His system would be included in it.  All others would be ushered off to the “waiting place”.

The Waiting Place

Unfortunately the waiting place is not here on earth, but somewhere in heaven, which means at the time of Christ’s coming some will remain, others will be ushered out.   I don’t see this act of God as a vengeful hateful God fulfilling His prophetic words by destruction of the wicked.  I see it as an act of love for His people.  Who are His people?  Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, and anyone who is found holding true to their belief in God and to true principles at the moment of His coming.  They are people who have overcome the influence of satan in their homes by preparing a sanctuary there for the family.

How will His government look, and in what way will it be different from Obama’s.  (btw I just use the name Obama as symbolic of the world government that is surely coming our way, if it isn’t here already)  We will enjoy freedom, because that is God’s gift to man.  We will be free to choose, but we will choose good, because that is who we are.  Christ is waiting for people to become like Him.   He is waiting for us to overcome wicked and evil, corruption and tyranny.  We still have a lot to do.  Are we ready for the battle which is bearing down upon us now?

To my Christian friends who fear God for all the wrong reasons,  God is not who you think He is.  The waiting place is a place of hope and correction, of missionary work and improvement.  It is a place of choice and freedom to make choice.  But, we are all bound by law and space, we cannot enter into space we are not prepared to enter.  Light burns.  God is a loving god, and there is a place for everyone, suited to themselves.
There is a law

This I file under Chassis

CHASSIS: God is the power that carries us, gives us breath, and agency to create our own wagon and chart our own course. The chassis is the framework that holds the box flat and balances the weight.

Satan: God, Christ, Holy Ghost:
Goal: Goal:
To force mankind to live eternally in his kingdom, on earth and beyond the grave.   Moses 1:39   This is my work and my glory:  to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.
Procedure: Procedure:
Develop secret societies, financed secretly by the government, prepared to take over and redistribute wealth, according to guidelines and restrictions placed by the government, when called upon to mobilize. The people will be informed and prepared to volunteer their lives to protect their families, their freedoms, and their right to worship God according to the dictates of their own conscience.
Follow the Progressive movement, which is full of secret combinations with the intent to

  • destroy the freedom of mankind
  • degenerate the family
  • erase God
The Constitution of the United States is an inspired document for our day.  The Book of Mormon is also.  Both have outlined and explained procedures, and warn of dangers.  The Book of Mormon includes cause and effect outcomes of good and poor choices.
Guidelines: Guidelines:
The family must be  broken The family and God will remain central to life
Gay/Lesbien/transgender alternatives to be taught in schools as acceptable standards, in the name of tolerance. True standards of fidelity, modesty, virtue will be the guidelines followed by a righteous people
Environmentalists will use propaganda to convince people the earth is more sacred than God. God stated the earth was created for man.  We will use wisdom in our care of it, and recognize our valuable resources.
Outcomes: Outcomes:
A government with one man at the helm, and all populations subservient to him.  A government structure which values freedom, knows right from wrong, and can govern with God as a partner.
Religions will collapse, as faith in God is destroyed The Church of Jesus Christ will attract members from all faiths, and unitedly they will overcome evil by their righteous living.
Populations will self-destruct Light will increase in the earth
Calamities will increase in the earth: volcanoes, earth quakes, hurricanes, tsunamis, stars will fall from heaven. Christ will come.  Ten lost tribes will return.  New Jerusalem will be built on the American continent.  Temple in Old Jerusalem will be built again.  The earth will be renewed.

Religious Pornography

Pornography addiction

For now, I’m going to attempt to label what I am currently thinking/saying/doing as one of the parts of my covered wagon, and see where the wagon goes from here.  My wagon must keep moving, and I must keep current.

On another blog today there was the idea that Christians may become too God-focused.    Something about this idea was unsettling. I have recognized this almost fanatical approach to God on other Christian forums, where believers seem to be running after the rainbow, never quite catching up to the pot of gold.  Then justifying themselves by stating nobody ever catches the pot of gold. “Not whether all things are centered in, related to, dependent on, destined for and exist to glorify God, but whether some expressions of Christianity can become so God-focused that the significance of what is not God- including all things in human experience- are devalued and even distorted to the point of confusion in the minds of God loving/God believing people.

This ” depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction”  definition  becomes, in a sense, religious pornography.  You are always left feeling like you’ve been running, yet your feet aren’t quite touching down.  You arrive, but it’s never quite satisfying, so you run after the next idea, far fetched as it may be.

When I have read some of the religious dialogues on other Christian forums I usually end up shaking my head. And when the subject ends in a tug-o-war, between who is right and who is more right, well, nobody wins. So, we Mormons just stay out of it. We live our life as full as possible, squeezing in time for church service in between our busy family schedules, fully satisfied with our belief in God. Some times I feel full to overflowing, like I can’t contain all of it. Other times not so much.

I still get overwhelmed and discouraged with life, but never with God. I am so completely grateful for the belief that I have. To me, God is like a corrective lens. I can see everything more clearly when I’m prepared. I don’t feel like I have to chase God in order to find Him.

Using the lens analogy, if a person is too God-focused, what distortions would that do to the lens through which you view life?   When belief is in order, the lens is correct. When you see clearly, you have healed. When you have healed it’s hard to imagine life any other way. Although this is hard to describe, that is how I feel about God. He is my valuable pair of glasses with the corrected lens. With Him dwelling in me I move through life with ease.  Seeing more clearly I am able to recognize God’s hand in timing, coincidence, and opportunity.  I testify that I know God absolutely lives.

I have compared God to the chassis of my wagon; therefore I file this there. The reason I titled this “religious pornography” was to make a point stronger by using opposites. I’m not sure I succeeded, but the point was made to me.

CHASSIS: God The power that carries us, gives us breath, and agency to create our own wagon and chart our own course. The chassis is the framework that holds the box flat and balances the weight.
